Not long ago, at the 5th China (Hangzhou) International Express Industry Conference, the "Global Express Development Report (2023)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") was officially released, and experts and scholars jointly discussed new opportunities for the development of the express industry under the new situation.

"As an important part of the global supply chain, although the express delivery industry has been affected by high inflation, geopolitics and other factors in the past year, operators from various countries have actively responded and innovated and collaborated, and the global express parcel market has generally shown a development trend against the trend." Wang Xibin, deputy director of the Development Research Center of the State Post Bureau, introduced.

Looking at the scale of business, the total volume of global express parcel business in 2022 will be about 189.2 billion pieces, a year-on-year increase of about 9.84%; The global express parcel revenue was about 4.1 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of about 12.18%. In line with the development trend of globalization and the development of the Internet economy, the growth rate of the global express parcel business has remained good, and the express delivery industry has interacted more frequently with the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, providing strong support for accelerating the recovery of the global economy.

Looking at the basic network, on the one hand, the postal network linked by the UPU has connected 192 member countries and regions, and there are about 618,000 post offices worldwide. On the other hand, based on the self-built networks of various express delivery companies, relatively independent and interrelated commercial delivery networks have developed rapidly, and the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and North America have become the main regions of global hub layout, and the strength of network layout and network hub density in emerging markets have increased.

Looking at the market pattern, the current global express parcel market is still relatively concentrated in terms of regional distribution, and the scale chassis is contributed by countries with more developed and active e-commerce markets. Driven by the rapid development of e-commerce, the express parcel business in the Asia-Pacific region has developed rapidly, with a business volume of about 138.1 billion pieces in 2022, accounting for 73% of the global total, and a business revenue of about 1.5 trillion yuan, accounting for 36.4% of the global total.

"After years of rapid development, China is not only a leading and active express delivery market, but also a booster for the development of global express delivery." Wang Xibin said that China's express parcel business volume since 2014 ranked first in the world, last year's express parcel business volume exceeded 110 billion pieces, business income exceeded one trillion yuan, becoming a vivid portrayal of China's economic recovery. China's express delivery network continues to expand, and now it has formed a giant network with a length (one-way) of more than 48.7 million kilometers, more than 230,000 express service outlets, and an average daily service of more than 700 million people.
